A listing of web sites that provide links to resources relating to the U.S. Virgin Islands. The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning the U.S. Virgin Islands is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 130 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.   One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of the U.S. Virgin Islands subjects is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://www.lanic.utexas.edu/la/cb/other/vi/).

Located on the island of St. John. Annaberg is a historic museum. Explore ruins from the Danish Plantation days and learn of the the function of a sugar mill and factory. Features a historic walking trail, factory ruins, slave quarters, windmill. The windmill was built possibly between 1810-30, and was among the largest in the islands.

CAMILLE PISSARRO (1830 -1903) born July 10th on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas, Danish West Indies; to Abraham Gabriel Pissarro, of Sephardic (or "Morrano") Jewish ancestry, and Rachel Manzano-Pomiace, a Dominican of Spanish descent. Pissarro was a key member of the French Impressionist group of painters. The Pissarro family, French and Jewish in origin, had settled in the Danish colony of St. Thomas. Pissarro received his early education at a boarding school near Paris and returned to St. Thomas where he sketched the picturesque port scenes. This reknowned band has been playing in the Washington D.C. area, several east coast states, the Virgin Islands and in Canada for several years. Some of their major appearances have been for both the St. Croix Festival, St. Thomas Carnival, the Hispanic American Festival, Congress of the United States, World Fest, Festival of the American Folk life- Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and Caribana in Toronto, Canada.

Located on the island of St. Thomas. The Reichhold Center of the Arts was built in 1978. Mr. Reichhold, (1901 -1989) was the Executive Officer of Reichhold Chemicals, Inc., a firm he founded in 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. WHIM PLANTATION MUSEUM  (http://www.stcroixlandmarks.com/whim.html)
Whim is the oldest sugar plantation museum in the Virgin Islands. The historic early 18th century plantation features 12 acres of buildings. Features a greathouse, an old kitchen, fully restored windmill and sugar factory ruins. The grounds have tropical flowers, plants and trees. There is a library and archives open to the general public. Guided tours are available to the general public.
