A listing of web sites that provide links to resources relating to the U.S. Virgin Islands. The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning the U.S. Virgin Islands is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 130 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.   One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of the U.S. Virgin Islands subjects is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://www.lanic.utexas.edu/la/cb/other/vi/).

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands ( CFVI ) was established in 1990 with an endowment. CFVI equally distributes grants, awards and scholarships across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

NATIONAL GOVERNORS' ASSOCIATION  (http://www.nga.org/)
Presents information about the National Governors' Association (NGA), an bipartisan organization, headquartered in Washington D.C., for the governors of the U.S. states, the commonwealths of the Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico, and the territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. Includes an overview and history of the organization, which provides a forum for governors to exchange views and experiences. Notes that the NGA also provides assistance in solving state-focused problems, information on state innovations and practices, and a bipartisan forum for governors to establish, influence, and implement policy on national issues. Posts press releases, along with contact information via mailing and e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.

A non-profit organization established in 1990. The St. Croix Foundation fosters economic and social development on St. Croix and throughout the Virgin Islands.

VIRGIN ISLANDS HUMANITIES COUNCIL  (http://www.vihumanities.org/)
The Virgin Islands Humanities Council (VIHC) is a private, nonprofit organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), a federal agency. This agency, established by Congress in 1965, supports research, education, and the promotion of public projects in the humanities. Governed by a thirteen-member volunteer board representing the islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island, the Humanities Council makes public and private funds available to support programs in the humanities for the benefit of the diverse population of the Virgin Islands.
