Library of Congress Coca-Cola Fellowship for the Study of Advertising and World Cultures

Selection

Selection of the Coca-Cola Fellow will be made by the Librarian of Congress upon the recommendation of a three-person Selection Committee, chosen from the broader academic community. The Selection Committee members will be appointed by the Librarian of Congress in consultation with the staff of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division.

Support

A computer equipped study carrel and access to viewing equipment within the M/B/RS division will be provided to support the research activities of the Fellow. Award recipients will also be included in the activities of the Library of Congress John W. Kluge Center and invited to take full advantage of the privileges and resources thereof. A study area will also be made available in the Jefferson Building, space permitting.

Requirements for Recipients of the Coca-Cola Fellowship

  • Residency in the Washington, DC, area for a minimum of three months while performing research in the audio-visual and other collections of the Library of Congress. The period of on-site research need not be continuous but must be completed within a period of eighteen months of the date the grant is awarded.
  • Preparation and delivery of a public lecture at the Library of Congress relating to the substance of the research project.
  • Creation of an article of publishable quality based on the research project.
  • Consultation with and advise the curators and staff of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division on the development and acquisition of broadcast advertising collections of historical, cultural and aesthetic importance.
  • Research results and any written or other creative works resulting from the Fellowship will remain the sole property of the grantee.
