752 The Virginia gazette.   1755 Feb. 3, 1776 On Sept. 30, 1775, Lord Dunmore sent a detachment of soldiers ashore to seize the press and appurtenances of the Virginia gazette, or, Norfolk intelligencer, published by John H. Holt. These were brought back to the ship Dunmore,of the British fleet under the command of the Earl of Dunmore lying off Norfolk. Lord Dunmore proceeded to issue at irregular intervals, a newspaper under the above title. The last issue located is that of Feb. 3, 1776. John, Earl of Dunmore, His Majesty's Lieutenant and Governor General of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia, and Vice Admiral of the same.
