First published in 1927, transition was the most exciting avant-garde literary magazine in Paris in the 1920s and early 1930s. It featured work and illustrations by James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Djuna Barnes, Pablo Picasso, Pavel Tchelitchew, Franz Kafka, Gertrude Stein, and others.
