Nanotechnology and Nanoscience
In June 2003 the UK Government commissioned the Royal Society, the UK national academy of science, and the Royal Academy of Engineering, the UK national academy of engineering, to carry out an independent study of likely developments and whether nanotechnology raises or is likely to raise new ethical, health and safety or social issues which are not covered by current regulation. This website explains what the study covered and how it was carried out.

Nanotechnology Resources Online

The Nanowerk Nanotechnology Portal includes nanoBASE (a nanomaterial database), nanoNEWS (daily news coverage and spotlight articles), nanoLINK (hundreds of links to related to nanotechnology), nanoBLOG, nanoRISK (a newsletter), and nanoBOOK.

National Nanotechnology Initiative

National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)
The National Science and Technology Council was established by Executive Order on November 23, 1993 as a cabinet-level council to coordinate science, space and technology policies across the Federal Government. NSTC acts as a "virtual" agency for science and technology (S&T) to coordinate the diverse parts of the Federal research and development (R&D) enterprise. NTSC has a Subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering and Technology (NSET). Information about its National Nanotechnology Initiative may be found at

Understanding Nanotechnology
This website is dedicated to providing clear explanations of nanotechnology applications in areas such as energy, medicine, and consumer goods.
