   <title>Brazil: Maternity Leave Expanded to Six Months</title>

   <description>The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved, on August 13, 2008, the proposal for a new law that expands maternity leave from the current four months established in the Constitution to an optional six months.    <title>European Union: Proposal for Self-Extinguishing Cigarettes</title>

   <description>Self-extinguishing cigarettes, which go out automatically within a minute if not puffed, are sold in Canada and in some states in the United States. Recently, the European Commission announced that all cigarettes have to be &quot;fire-safe&quot; by 2011.
