Arroz con Leche

America, North: Mexican

Arroz con Leche is important to us because my family is Mexican.

My grandmother makes this recipe at her house in Mexico and follows the recipe exactly. When the weather is cold my granmother serves this at night.

When I eat Arroz con Leche it is good and hot.

1 cup uncooked rice
1 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 quart milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1. Put all ingredients in a saucepan and stir.
2. Bring to boiling then reduce the heat to low.
3. Cover and cook until rice is tender.
4. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.
5. Remove the cinnamon stick.
6. Serve hot or chilled.
