The balls open like a smiling face. This dish is usually served at New Year for festive occastion in our family
A. 2/3 cup sugar, 1 Tsp shortening, 2 large eggs
B. 2 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 cup sesame seeds
1. Mix ingredients of A. until thoroughly combined; sift B. and add to A. Knead to a soft dough; flatten the dough slightly and cut it into 16 pieces. Dip a piece of dough in water and roll it into a ball. Roll the ball in the sesame seeds. Be sure to press the seeds slightly into the balls so that the seeds won’t fall off during frying. Make the other balls in the same manner.
2. Heat the wok to medium hot then add oil; deep-fry the balls over low heat until they expand and open. Turn the heat to high and deep-fry the balls until golden brown; remove, drain and let cool. Serve!
