Stewed Okra

Stewed Okra, is important to our family because it has been around for very important occasion.When there's nothing else to cook in the house, and if you want to make your dinner seem big then cook Stewed Okra.This dish was mainly served on Thanksgiving and Christmas.I remeber all of the family getting together and having a good time.


3 lbs of chopped okra
1 lb of shrimp
1 lb of smoked sausage
6 cloves of garlic
16 oz can tomato sauce
2 bay leves
2 tablespoons of olive oil
2 cups of chicken stock or water
2 cups chopped yellow onion


In a large sauce pan heat 2 tablespoons olive oil, over medium heat.
Add okra, onion, garlic, cover for five minutes, or until all the slime is out of the okra.
Add smoked sausage, tomato sauce, bay leves, chicken, and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add shrimp and cook for about 10 minutes, or until pink.
Serve over white rice.
