Speaker Biography: Vine Deloria Jr., of the Standing Rock Sioux, is one of the nation's prominent spokesmen on Indian nationalism. He is the former executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, and served on the faculties of the University of Arizona and the University of Colorado. His book, "Custer Died for Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto," brought national attention, and he has followed with more than 20 books including "Spirit and Reason: the Vine Deloria, Jr. Reader" and "Power and Place: Indian Education in America." Deloria was the recipient of the 1996 Native American Writers Circle Lifetime Achievement Award and the 1999 Wordcraft Circle Writer of the Year Award.
