Children's book author and storyteller Carmen Agra Deedy appears at the National Book Festival.
Speaker Biography: Children's book author and storyteller Carmen Agra Deedy was born in Havana, Cuba, emigrated to the United States with her family in 1963 during the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution and grew up in Decatur, Ga. She has written seven children's books. "The Yellow Star" (2000) has won more than a dozen awards, including the 2001 Christopher Award and the 2001 Jane Addams Peace Association Honor Book Award. She also wrote and performed "Growing Up Cuban in Decatur, Georgia," which is available on compact disc. Her most recent book is "14 Cows" (2009), on which she collaborated with Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah. Deedy lives in Georgia.
