DESCRIPTION:
Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgaard reads selections from his novel 'My Struggle: Book One' and discusses the state of contemporary Norwegian literature.
Speaker Biography: Karl Ove Knausgaard completed his six-volume autobiography, "My Struggle," in 2011. Book One, to be released in English this year by Archipelago Books, is already available in more than a dozen languages. Born in Oslo, Knausgaard was raised on the island of Tromoy and in Kristiansand, in southern Norway. He studied art and literature at the University of Bergen. He now lives in Malmo, Sweden with his wife and three children. An earlier, prize-winning work, "A Time to Every Purpose Under Heaven," has also been translated into English. "My Struggle" has generated much public discussion in Norway concerning the ethics of Knausgaard's personal observations about friends and family members, including his former wife. Book One focuses in large part on the author's early years and the death of his alcoholic father.
