Center for the Book Hosts 1994 Annual Conference of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing
On July 14-16, 1994, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress will host the second annual conference of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP). Approximately 120 scholars attended SHARP'S first conference, which was held in New York City on June 9-11, 1993.
Proposals for papers for the July 1994 conference are invited from academics and nonacademics alike. Papers may deal with any aspect of the history of the book, including the history of authorship, copyright, literary agencies, publishing, censorship, book production and distribution, bookselling, book reviewing, libraries, canon formation, literacy, reading habits, and reader response. Conference proceedings will be in English, but papers devoted to any national literature are invited.
Abstracts of proposed papers (two pages maximum) should be sent by December 10, 1993, to John Y. Cole, director, Center for the Book, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. 20540.
