Library of Congress Publishes Bibliography on Finland and the Finns
The Library of Congress has just published Finland and the
Finns: A Selective Bibliography to provide researchers and
students with a guide to current sources. It was compiled by
Dr. Elemer Bako, a retired Finno-Ugrian Area Specialist of the
Library's European Division.
This 276-page illustrated bibliography is the result of many
years of research covering all aspects of life in Finland. It
reflects the success of the longstanding international
acquisitions programs at the Library.
The publications listed in this work are not limited to those
issued by Finns or in Finland; it contains many publications by
American, Scandinavian, and other non-Finnish students of Nordic
history, culture, and politics.
The bibliography lists a total of 2,108 publications. Included
is a selective listing of Library of Congress holdings of maps
and atlases of Finland. All items cited in the bibliography are
available in the collections of the Library of Congress, which
currently contain some 100,000 Finnish-language items.
Finland and the Finns: A Selective Bibliography (Washington:
Library of Congress, 1993) is available for $24 from the U.S.
Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402-9328 (cite
