Press Conference on Acquisition of Bernstein Collection
WHAT:
Press conference and panel discussion on the gift of
Leonard Bernstein's professional and personal archives
to the Library of Congress and plans to make them
widely available in electronic form.
Panel discussion of Bernstein's life and work,
moderated by long-time Bernstein associate, Schuyler
Chapin, will include participation by Dr. James
Pruett, chief of the Library's Music Division;
daughter Nina Bernstein; actress Lauren Bacall;
conductor Michael Tilson Thomas; Dr. Scott Massey,
president and Executive Director of the Nashville
Institute for the Arts; and Dr. Kristina Woolsey,
Distinguished Scientist for Apple Computer, Inc.

The estate of Leonard Bernstein has given to the Library his
music manuscripts and other archives in order to launch a new
initiative to develop an electronic archives of music materials
that can be shared with users everywhere. The collection joins
other music materials that Bernstein donated to the Library of
Congress during his lifetime, as well as the papers and
manuscripts of many other major 20th century composers and
musicians.
