Northern Telecom To Award $1 Million to Library of Congress
WHAT: Northern Telecom will award $1 million to the Library for its Global Library Project.
WHO: The Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington; Jean Monty, president and CEO, Northern Telecom; Glenn Jones, chairman and CEO, Jones Intercable.

WHERE: Digital Library Visitors' Center, Atrium, James Madison Memorial Building, First Street and Independence Avenue S.E.
Northern Telecom will present the Library of Congress's Global Library Project with an award of $1 million to help the Library develop better access for schools and libraries across the country to the digitized collections of the Library. Northern Telecom's award will support the information-delivery needs of the Library.
Since 1990, the Library has made its collections available electronically through its pilot American Memory Project, available at 44 test sites across the country. The Library now also offers selected American Memory collections, exhibitions, legislative and other information through the Internet to the nation and the world.
Jones Intercable, through its Mind Extension University, since 1990 has presented the Library's one-hour TV series, the Global Library Project.
