Executive Director of Black Leadership Forum to Keynote African-American History Month at Library of Congress

WHAT: The keynote address of the Library's celebration of African- American History Month

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Scruggs-Leftwich is expected to address the national theme for African-American History Month, "The Legacy of African-American Leadership for the Present and the Future."

The Black Leadership Forum is a 20-year confederation of the top national civil rights and service organizations. As executive director of the group, Dr. Scruggs-Leftwich facilitates dialogue among African-American leaders and designs opportunities for collaboration across racial lines on issues important to the community.

Dr. Scruggs-Leftwich has served in several public offices, including Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia, New York State Housing Commissioner and Deputy Assistant Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She has written extensively on urban policy. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Fulbright Fellow in Germany in 1955-1956. Currently, she is also a professor in George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management.
