Michael Eisner, Kofi Annan, and Christopher Reeve To Be Interviewed at the Library of Congress
Parade magazine Editor Walter Anderson will conduct a series of interviews with influential world leaders during the month of October in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium. On October 5, Mr. Anderson will interview Disney Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will be interviewed on October 19 and actor Christopher Reeve will be interviewed on October 26. [PLEASE NOTE: Kofi Annan canceled his Oct. 19 appearance.] Each interview will begin at 7 p.m. and last approximately 90 minutes, except for Mr. Reeve's, which will last 45 minutes. The sessions are open to the public. No tickets are required.
The interviews are part of a series, "It's About Time," which is co-sponsored by Parade magazine. Each interview will be videotaped and donated to the Library of Congress for its collections. The goal is to create a record that will give viewers in the future a sense of America at the turn of the millennium and what we thought about. Mr. Anderson will ask his guests to consider what we should have in mind as we enter the next century; what are the moral, academic and technological challenges we must face; and how should we face them?
The series was launched on May 4 at the New School University in New York City with Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel. Subsequent interviewees have included Marian Wright-Edelman, President of the Children's Defense Fund, and former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley. Additional interviews with major government leaders are now being scheduled for next Spring.
