Major Hemingway Collection Donated to Library

The Library of Congress will announce the donation of a major private collection of original manuscripts, letters, photographs, recordings and films of Ernest Hemingway at a press conference on Wednesday, October 27, at 2 p.m. in room LJ-119 of the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First St. S.E.

The collection is being donated by A.E. Hotchner, author of the memoir Papa Hemingway. John Hemingway, the author's eldest son, will present to the Library the "first copy" of his father's first book, Three Stories and Ten Poems (Paris, 1923), which is inscribed to his mother, Hadley, Ernest Hemingway's first wife. Selections from the collection will be on display and both Mr. Hotchner and Mr. Hemingway will attend the event and be available for interviews.

The Hotchner collection includes unpublished letters, early drafts of later novels, several unpublished poems, articles and stories as well as rare sound recordings, home movies and photographs.
