Author To Discuss Tall Ships
Writer and photographer Thad Koza will discuss Tall Ships: The Fleet for the 21st Century at the Library of Congress on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. The lecture and slide show is cosponsored by the Library of Congress's Humanities and Social Sciences Division and the National Maritime Heritage Foundation. It will take place in the West Dining Room, on the sixth floor of the Library's James Madison Memorial Building. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Thad Koza, a native Rhode Islander, has photographed and taken part in sailing excursions on tall ships for more than 20 years. Mr. Koza has written many magazine articles on ships with an emphasis on their historical significance. Most recently he has worked with WCBB-TV in Boston for the Sail Boston Parade and with WPVI-TV in Philadelphia for its daylong broadcast of OpSail Philadelphia in June 2000.
Tall Ships: The Fleet for the 21st Century includes photos and detailed descriptions of more than 175 ships, including class "A" ships and classes "B" and "C" vessels from many countries of the world. A large photograph of each vessel, photos of details particular to each ship, technical specifications, and notable occurrences for each vessel are included. Copies of the book will be available for sale following this lecture.
The Humanities and Social Sciences Division provides reference service and collection development in the Main, Local History and Genealogy, and Microform reading rooms at the Library of Congress. It regularly sponsors programs in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
