MEDIA ADVISORY
Library of Congress Buildings Closed to Most Tourists
Special and Pre-Arranged Group Tours Will Continue
These Restrictions are Consistent with Other Emergency Procedures Being Put in Place on Capitol Hill
Effective October 17, the three Library of Congress buildings on Capitol Hill will be closed to walk-in tourists and groups until further notice. Special tours booked through the Library's Visitor Services office by prior arrangement will still be able to visit the Library. To arrange tours for groups of ten or more, call the Visitor Services Office at (202) 707-9779.
Visitors on business, as well as readers and researchers using the Library's collections, may continue to enter the Library buildings.
At this time, these changes will not affect audiences for programs at the Library of Congress, such as lectures, readings, concerts and other activities, which are open to the public.
The Library's actions to restrict visitors during this period of uncertainty is consistent with emergency security procedures that are being put in place throughout the U.S. Capitol complex.
