Hispanic Division to Host Open House Program on October 11
The Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress will host an open house program, in the Hispanic Reading Room, Room 240 of the Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street S.E., Washington, D.C. The event is free and open to the public.
"I am pleased to have this opportunity to showcase the Hispanic holdings of the Library of Congress and the services offered to the public in the Hispanic Reading Room," said Hispanic Division Chief Georgette Dorn.
The Oct. 11 program will feature a display of items from the Library's Hispanic collection. Angela Zavala, chief executive officer of TYIM Publishing Company in McLean, Va., and editor of "Anuario Hispano/Hispanic Yearbook" now in its 17th edition, will deliver a lecture on "Hispanics in the United States." Staff specialists will demonstrate the Library's online Hispanic resources.
The Hispanic and Portuguese collections of the Library of Congress comprise more than 10 million items, including books, maps and retrospective holdings of government serials, newspaper and other periodicals and are believed to be the most extensive such collections in the world.
