A memorial service for Librarian of Congress Emeritus Daniel J. Boorstin, who died on Feb. 28, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, in the Coolidge Auditorium of the Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street S.E., Washington, D.C. The service is open to the public.

Boorstin, who died at the age of 89, was Librarian of Congress from 1975 until he retired in 1987. A prize-winning historian, he was eulogized at a private family service on March 2 by Librarian of Congress James H. Billington as a "great American" and "a matchless chronicler of the uniqueness, the innovative spirit and the everyday practicality of our shared American experience."

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, which Boorstin founded in 1977.
