Rescue of Denmark's Jews During World War II Is Subject of Film to Be Shown at the Library Nov. 8
The Library of Congress Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division and the Hebrew Language Table will present the award-winning film "The Danish Solution" (Singing Wolf Documentaries, 2003) at noon on Monday, Nov. 8, in the Mary Pickford Theater on the third floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave S.E., Washington, D.C.
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required but seating is limited.
Written, directed and produced by Karen Cantor and Camilla Kjærulff, this documentary film explores how and why 95 percent of Denmark's Jewish population survived World War II. Cantor will be on hand to introduce the film, which commemorates the 60th anniversary of this dramatic rescue by the Danish people. Through the testimonies of survivors and interviews with rescuers and scholars, the film explains how Hitler's "final solution" -- the plan to exterminate Europe's Jews -- was averted in Denmark.
Narrated by Garrison Keillor, the 58-minute film contains English subtitles.
