How About a Little Summer Reading?

What's on your reading list for the summer? You know you've made one, as many of us do—the lure of a vacation by the beach or an afternoon on the front porch encouraging a visit to the local library or bookstore. Perhaps mystery-thriller "Simple Genius" by David Baldacci made the cut. Or, for the history and biography buff, "Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America 1789–1989" by Michael Beschloss, is at the top of the list. Maybe Cat Cora's "Cooking from the Hip: Fast, Easy, Phenomenal Meals" is on your plate.

Well, the Library of Congress brings to you the reading list of all reading lists, as it hosts, with first lady Laura Bush, the 2007 National Book Festival on Sept. 29 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. These authors are just a sampling of about 70 appearing in a variety of genre-specific pavilions. For a complete list, check out the book festival Web site.

For those unable to make it to the nation's capital, downloadable podcasts of interviews with popular participating authors will be available on the site, and the authors' presentations will be available the week following the festival. Until then, you can check out past festivals, including author lists, podcasts and webcasts.

Both Baldacci and Beschloss have participated in past National Book festivals. Beschloss was a featured author in 2001, the inaugural year of the festival, and again in 2003.

Baldacci appeared in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
