The Library of Congress provides a treasure chest of opportunities for those who want to partake in an environment that values and respects the uniqueness of every individual. The Library of Congress has established the Diversity Advisory Council to ensure diversity within the work environment. The council has adopted and enforced policies in order to guarantee an empowering atmosphere where the staff of the Library of Congress can "achieve its maximum potential for the betterment of future and current generations to come."

The Library of Congress embraces diversity through the acknowledgement that diversity "includes such factors as culture, race, color, ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, physical ability, religion, socio-economic level, language, sexual orientation, politics, organizational philosophy, intelligence, occupational skills, education, etc."
