An introductory glossary relating to image databases
List of TERMS AND THEIR DEFINITIONS provided in ISO 12231 (in PDF format). Proposed additions to the list of terms are also available.
This thesaurus is maintained and published by the Library's Prints and Photographs Division. Its terms are applied to images, including those used for American Memory.
The categories, developed under the auspices of the Art Information Task Force, are, "guidelines for formulating the content of art databases. They articulate an intellectual structure for descriptions of objects and images: in this sense they constitute a schematic representation of the requirements and assumptions implicit in the practice of the discipline of art history."
A list of brief definitions of basic terms relating to Internet access and use.
Updated in August 1996, (obsoleting RFC 1392), this Request For Comments is a single ASCII file for a 60+ page document. Use the Find command in your browser to search for individual terms.
Simple definitions in one large linked file.
This extensive, searchable dictionary is full of cross-references (hypertext links) with relevant pointers to external resources. It is aimed primarily at a fairly technical audience, but includes jargon as well as formal terms.
A single HTML file with definitions but no explanations.
This glossary covers more technical networking terms. 3COM makes networking hardware.
