Color Mode: Indicates whether source item used in digitizing an intellectual work is in color or shades of gray. This attribute is also referred to as "chromatic value." Currently recognized color modes are listed below:
Color Mode Meaning Code Bitonal Black and white only; no shades of gray. 01 Color Color tones; no shades of gray. 02 Grayscale Shades of gray; no color tones. 03 Content Type: Indicates the general physical nature of the source item used to digitize an intellectual work. Content Type does not indicate the genre or subject content of the source item nor does it indicate how the source item was digitized (e.g., scanned, encoded). Content types include:
- Audio: Recorded or broadcast sound, including speech, music, animal calls, nature sounds, synthesized sounds, and noise.
- Text: Printed or handwritten material accessible to the naked eye. This includes books, pamphlets, broadsides, manuscripts, and musical scores.

Descriptive Information ID: Indicates value used to identify the machine-readable bibliographic information that describes the source item.
Descriptive Information Type: Indicates the type of machine-readable bibliographic information that describes the source item. Examples: MARC record, MINARET record, Electronic Archival Description (EAD), MUMS record.
Exhibit digitized for: Identifies the LC exhibition that caused the source item to be digitized.
Exhibit Item ID: Identifies a source item within the LC exhibition that caused it to be digitized.
Inventory ID: The persistent identifer of the physical item used to digitize an intellectual work.
Physical Format: Indicates the physical format of the source item used to digitize an intellectual work. The default for this field is "Hard copy/Bound hard cover."
Physical Format Code Hard Copy/Bound hard cover 001 Hard Copy/Bound soft cover 002 Hard Copy/unbound multiple sheets 003 Hard Copy/unbound single sheet 004
Physical Condition: Indicates the physical condition of an LC collection item as determined by custodial personnel. The condition recorded for a given item may change over time, but only one condition can be associated with that item at a time. The default is "Good as of last handling."
Physical Condition Meaning Code Not yet assessed Determination of an item's physical condition has not yet been made by the custodial division. 01 Good as of last handling Condition of item was good as of the last time it was handled by the custodial division. 02 Binding needs repair Binding of item needs either to be repaired or replaced. 03 Brittle Pages of bound item are in extremely brittle condition. Candidate for either deacidification or preservation microfilming. 04 Send to Preservation Office Physical condition of item requires evaluation by the Preservation Office. 05 Pages missing Pages are missing but usefulness of item is not impaired. 06 Pages torn Pages of item are torn or otherwise damaged. 07 Replacement pages needed Missing pages must be replaced in order to restore full usefulness of item. 08 Stained Cover or pages of item are stained or have suffered water damage. 09
Sides Digitized: Indicates which sides of the source item were or are to be digitized.

Source Extent Information: Indicates the range over which a source item reaches as expressed in space or time. Source extent types include dimensions in centimeters, inches, and pixels as well as duration, such as the playing time of an audio recording or motion picture. Source extent Information is a combination attribute with two subordinate attributes, source extent type and source extent value.
Source Extent Type: Part of the combination Source Extent Information. Indicates whether the extent is a range of space or time and the nature of how it is expressed. Source extent types currently defined are listed below.
- Duration - The interval of time during which something exists or proceeds. The playing time of an item such as an audio recording or motion picture.
- Dimensions - The measure of the height and width of an item.
Source Extent Value: Part of the combination attribute Source Extent Information. Provides measurement values used to indicate the dimensions or playing time of an item. Source Extent Value will vary according to the Source Extent Type specified. Value formats for currently defined Source Extent Types are indicated below.
Source Extent
TypeName Unit of
MeasureValue Format 001 Duration time HHHH:MM:SS.SSS

004 Dimensions (metric) cm WWWW:HHHH (W = width and H = height)
Source Work ID: Idenfities an intellectual work that is being or has been digitized as part of an aggregate. The Source Work ID is usually a "one-up" count number. It is unique only within the first aggregate to which the associated intellectual work was assigned.
Version Used to Digitize: Indicates whether the original source item or an interim surrogate such as a color transparency was used to digitize and intellectual work.
