Subject Headings
Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:
H 1155, Legis bodies
$x Transition periods
H 1160, Musical comps
$v Vocal scores with harp
H 1188, Sacred works
$x Postcolonial criticism (May Subd Geog)
Other decisions:
Abimelech (Biblical judge)
The meeting did not approve establishing a subject heading for this Biblical judge because Biblical characters should be established as personal name headings (cf. H 405)
Fasts and feasts--Zoroastrianism
It is not necessary to creat an authority record for this specific combination because the heading Fasts and feasts has an instructional scope note saying that the heading may be subdivided by religious body or non-Christian religion. According to the background statement in instruction sheet H 1090, such notes authorize the use of subdivisions for Christian denominations and other religions on a free-floating basis.
Pallavas
The meeting did not approve adding the proposed UF references to the heading Pallavas. According to the background statement in instruction sheet H 1574, some headings for named dynasties were established in the past in a form similar to headings for classes of persons. These headings may be changed to the form [...] dynasty as they are encountered. Therefore, a proposal to revise this heading to the dynasty form may be resubmitted. It would not be appropriate to make UF references for "Pallava Empire" or "Pallava Kingdom" on the heading for the dynasty. If a geographic heading for the territory that this dynasty ruled or controlled is desired and one does not yet exist, establishing a jurisdictional name heading needs to be investigated.
