This island as a physical feature is coterminous with the former county of New Zealand with the same name. The existing name authority record for the county is valid also for the island. No separate subject authority record is needed and the proposal is not necessary.

The note included with the proposal indicates that the proposal was intended to cover the psychological aspects only.
