Classification
DS589.B18
DS589.A-Z is an e.g. list and as such it is not necessary to establish a cutter number in the classification schedule for this city. Those that are listed in the schedule are provided only as examples.
N910.W48
This proposal was made to establish a cutter for the Gouverneurshuis van de Nederlandse Antillen in the list of American art museums. The governor's house is not a museum, but an official residence. The book is more appropriately treated as an art catalog containing Netherlands Antillean and Dutch art, and classified in N6615.N42. The proposal was not approved.
Subject Headings
Christianity and imperialism
Works on this topic have been assigned the heading Christianity and politics post-coordinated with Imperialism and/or names of a specific religions or denominations and headings for specific activities (e.g., Missions). This practice seems to be sufficient. The proposal was not approved.
Heilbronn-Franken Region (Germany)
According to its web site, Wirtschaftsregion Heilbronn-Franken GmbH is a corporate body that works toward the creation of networks between industry, local authorities, and regional politics. As such it should be established as a name heading. The proposal was not approved.
Liberalism and human rights
Works on the relationship between liberalism and human rights have been assigned two post-coordinated headings: Liberalism and Human rights. The meeting wishes to continue this practice. The proposal was not approved.
Physical education for youth with mental disabilities; Physical education for youth with social disabilities
The addition of a BT Physical education for youth was proposed for each of these headings. Subject Headings Manual instruction sheet H 370 specifies that for headings that include prepositional phrases, a BT is made for the heading that corresponds to the term following the preposition. The proposals were not approved.
Sexual minorities--Relations with heterosexuals
The heading Sexual minorities includes transgender people, some of whom are heterosexual. The proposed heading is therefore inherently contradictory. Headings of the type [Specific sexual minority]--Relations with heterosexuals (e.g., Gay men--Relations with heterosexuals) may be assigned to bring out this concept, and additional headings of this type may be proposed as needed. The proposal was not approved.
OTHER DECISIONS
Opera houses move to Group 2 subject headings
SHM H 405 delineates the types of entities that should be established as name headings according to descriptive cataloging conventions (Group 1), and those that should be proposed as subject headings (Group 2). Theater companies are in Group 1 and theater buildings are in Group 2. However, opera houses are listed as being in Group 1, which is contradictory since an opera house is a type of theater building.
To resolve this contradiction and alleviate any confusion it has caused, the category "opera houses" has been moved to Group 2; all opera houses are now to be proposed as subject headings, just as theater buildings are. An additional category for opera companies has been added to the list for Group 1 name headings.
Existing name authority records for theater buildings and opera houses will be cancelled and subject proposals will be made for them as time permits.
