Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.
Subject Headings
Ciaramella; Ciaramella music
According to reference sources, ciaramella is the Italian term for shawm. Shawm and Shawm music are already authorized subject headings. The proposals were not approved.
Behavioral assessment of teenagers
This proposal was made to add a reference from "Behavioral assessment of adolescents" to the existing heading. Adolescents is a UF to Teenagers, and the meeting considers that to be sufficient. The proposal was not approved.
Elizabeth Park (Norfolk, Va.)
GNIS indicates that Elizabeth Park is a populated place within the City of Norfolk, and other sources show that it is a housing subdivision. According to Subject Headings Manual instruction sheet H 405, city sections should be established as name headings. The proposal was not approved.
Martins fmaily
Martins and Martin appear to be variant forms of the same family name, with the same ethnic background. Therefore, Martins family will be added as a UF to the established heading Martin family. The proposal was not approved.
Social stories
As used in the field of psychology, the term "social stories" refers to individualized short stories that are used to teach social skills to children with autism and other cognitive disorders. The meeting believes that the proposal would be enhanced by the addition of a qualifier such as (Autism treatment) or (Cognitive disorder treatment). Research should be done to determine the most appropriate qualifier. The BT Fiction should also be replaced with one or more broader terms from the fields of psychology and/or sociology.
A related proposal, Social story intervention, appears on next week's list. Since it appears that the more commonly used term for this concept is "social story technique," consideration should be given to establishing the heading as Social story technique.
Both of the proposals may be resubmitted.
Zampogna (Bagpipe); Zampogna (Bagpipe)music
According to reference sources, zampogna is the Italian term for bagpipe. Bagpipe and Bagpipe music are already authorized subject headings. The proposals were not approved.
