Other decisions:

Archival linked data

This proposal was submitted following the example of Library linked data. The meeting feels that there is no fundamental difference between linked data being used for various formats of metadata. Therefore, the heading Library linked data will be cancelled in favor of the heading Linked data. Going forward, the heading Linked data may be assigned along with the type of material, e.g., Archival materials, or the activity, e.g., Cataloging of archival materials. The current proposal for Archival linked data was not approved.

Charge carrier trapping

The proposed heading is too specific for a general vocabulary such as LCSH. Even the specialized vocabulary of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) conflates terms for these specific processes into the term Charge carrier processes. The cataloger should assign the heading Charge carrier processes (approved on this list). The proposal for Charge carrier trapping was not approved.

Child slaves—Emancipation

The subdivision –Emancipation has not been used with any other subgroup of slaves, and the meeting does not wish to begin the practice. The cataloger should assign Slaves—Emancipation postcoordinated with Child slaves instead. The proposal was not approved.

Consolidated Edison Building (New York, N.Y.)

A cataloger’s note says that the building name is not the same as the corporation name, but it is. The full name of the company might be Consolidated Edison of New York, but everyone knows it as Consolidated Edison or Con Ed. Furthermore, Con Ed was previously named the Consolidated Gas Company of New York, and a former name for the building is the Consolidated Gas Building. H 1334 says that when the building is known by the same name as the corporate body that occupies it, the heading for the corporate body should be used. It specifically does not say that the building name must match the established form of the corporate body’s name. The test should be whether a rational person would consider the name of the building and the name of the corporation to be the same. In this case, it is. The proposal was not approved.

Hamsa (Mythical bird) in art

There is no information in the citations that relates this proposal to the work being cataloged. The citation explaining what Hamsa is does not specify that a heading is needed for Hamsa in art. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Merozoite surface protein 1

This is a specific protein that occurs on the surface of a particular cell in the early stages of the life cycle of a protozoan. The proposed heading is too specific for a general vocabulary such as LCSH. The heading for Merozoite surface proteins (approved on this list) should be assigned. If the more specific heading is needed, a heading from a specialized vocabulary such as MeSH may be assigned. The proposal was not approved.

Northern Tidung language

This proposal appears to be related to the proposal to revise the heading Tidung languages, which was approved on this list. The proposal for Northern Tidung language includes only citations to reference sources, not to a work being cataloged. Headings are to be proposed when they are needed for cataloging. The proposal for the Northern Tidung language was not necessary.

Mononucleosomes

The heading for Nucleosomes (approved on this list) should be used instead. Mononucleosomes, Dinucleosomes, and Polynucleosomes are all UFs on that heading. The proposal was not approved

Sumoylated histones

The proposed heading is too specific for a general vocabulary such as LCSH. Even a specialized vocabulary such as MeSH does not contain a similar heading. Two headings, Sumoylation (approved on this list) and Histones—Metabolism, may be assigned instead. The proposal was not approved.

Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy

The proposed heading is too specific for a general vocabulary such as LCSH. For similar concepts, catalogers have assigned two headings, and the meeting chooses to continue the current practice. The cataloger should assign Time-resolved spectroscopy and Fluorescence spectroscopy instead. If a more specific heading is needed, a term from a specialized vocabulary may be assigned. The proposal was not approved.

Transient absorption spectroscopy

According to information in the 670s, this concept is also known as Flash photolysis, which is an existing heading. UFs will be added to Flash photolysis. The proposal was not approved.

X-ray spectroscopy--Instruments

This proposal was made to add this heading as a BT onto X-ray spectrometer. However, Spectrometer, which is the existing BT, is already in an instruments hierarchy. The proposal was not approved.

GENRE/FORM TERMS

Free translations

A translation is not a genre or a form, as was noted in the Summary of Decisions for list 12 in 2016. The genre/form terms assigned would reflect the genre or form of the work itself (e.g., a free translation of a Greek epic would be assigned Epics). The proposal was not approved.

Medical codes

While the meeting does not contest that medical codes exist, the resources that patrons would request would be handbooks, encyclopedias, lists, etc. The medical codes are the content/subject of the work, not the genre. The proposal was not approved.

Psychic readings

The only citation supporting this proposal is from Wikipedia. The cataloger should provide information from an authoritative reference source. The proposal may be resubmitted.
