This proposal was made to add cyclo-cross to the caption for bicycle motocross. The sports are different, and should have separate numbers. A proposal for a separate number for cyclo-cross may be resubmitted.

This proposal was made to add a periodicals and serials number to an existing hierarchy. CSM F 210 sec. 3 says, “Establish a class number for periodicals only as part of a proposal for a major new development for a topic on which many periodicals are likely to be published. … do not establish a new periodicals number if there are periodicals on the topic already classed in the number for general work.” The proposal was not approved.

The Musée Ignon-Fabre must be established in the name authority file before it can be used as a classification caption. There also seems to be some evidence that the Musée Ignon-Fabre is not (or is not only) an art museum. The meeting requests that research be done to determine what type of museum it is, and that it be established. The proposal may be resubmitted.
PN1590.S67
This proposal was submitted with a subject proposal for Social problems in the theater. Please see below under Social problems in the theater for comments on the subject proposal. If the work being cataloged is about social problems as depicted onstage, it should be classified in PN2930-2938. The proposal may be resubmitted if the class number is necessary for the work being cataloged.
PT6150.R33
PT6150 is for history and criticism of Flemish drama, not a list of cutters referring to specific dramatic forms. PT6150 should be assigned to the work being cataloged. In addition, the heading Radio plays, Flemish was assigned to the work, but needs to be proposed. The classification proposal was not approved.

SHM H 1790 sec. 4 says that LCSH form headings are not assigned to individual works of adult fiction, children’s fiction, or young adult fiction, and H 1800 says that nonspecific form headings are not assigned to collections of poetry by one author. If form headings are desired, terms from another vocabulary such as LCGFT should be assigned instead. The proposals were not necessary.
Ethnic folklore—Azerbaijan
Ethnic folklore may be subdivided geographically. The proposal was not necessary.
IJ River (Netherlands)
SHM H 690 states that Geonet must be consulted for the names of all foreign places, other than those in New Zealand. Geonet was not cited, though, and the UF provided is not supported by the information that does appear in the record. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Khinalugs (South Caucasian people)
The proposed heading was not used in the bibliographic record for the work being cataloged, and was not needed to catalog that work. The proposal was not necessary.
Lewisburg, Battle of, Lewisburg, W. Va., 1862
SHM H 365 sec. 1 states the four situations under which classification numbers may be included in proposals for subject headings. E473.7 does not fall into any of those situations, but would if the “including” note for E473.7 were edited. In addition, the UF in the proposal is not permitted according to SHM H 1285, which contains guidelines on proposing headings for battles, and LCSH precedent. A revised subject proposal may be resubmitted along with a proposal to revise the “including” note for class number E473.7.
Natural disasters—Religious aspects—Shinto
The English-language information provided in the citation for the work being cataloged, “Modern role of Shinto culture,” doesn’t support the heading because it doesn’t indicate the relationship between Shinto and natural disasters. The proposal may be resubmitted with a clarified citation.
Paggaio, Mount (Greece)
The meeting requests that the citations in the record be revised as follows.
The forms of name that are not pertinent to the feature or in English should be removed from the Wikidata citation. LCSH does not provide references from non-pertinent languages, so the data is extraneous. This citation should be removed altogether if removing the non-pertinent forms results in a citation that merely repeats information found in the other sources consulted.
The descriptive information in the Sudoc [ABES] citation should be translated into English.
The forms of name found in VIAF should be romanized.
The GeoNames citation should be removed and replaced with a citation to Geonet (available at http://geonames.nga.mil/namesgaz/). GeoNames is an aggregator service, and is not the same as Geonet (which is sometimes referred to as Geonames). Geonet is the official repository of standard spellings of all foreign geographic names, as sanctioned by the United States Board on Geographic Names. It must be consulted for the names of all foreign places, other than those in New Zealand (SHM H 690).
After the citations are revised, the heading and references should be reexamined in light of guidance on the heading and UFs provided in H 690 and guidance on qualifiers for geographic entities in H 810.
The proposal may be resubmitted.
Palehr Site (Micronesia)
According to the citations in the record, the archaeological site is in a populated place. The site therefore needs to be qualified by that place, according to SHM H 1225 sec. 3. The meeting cannot find a name authority record for the place, which is spelled three ways in the citations present in the proposal. A name authority record should be created if necessary, the qualifier in the subject heading should be adjusted, and the proposal may be resubmitted.
Piave River Watershed (Italy)
Only the Italian-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.
Rhythm Club Fire, Natchez, Miss., 1940
SHM H 1105, the list of pattern subdivisions for corporate bodies, includes the subdivision –Fire, [date] with the instruction to use it under names of buildings, structures, etc. The Rhythm Club should be established in the name authority file, and that access point heading may be subdivided by –Fire, 1940. The proposal was not approved.
Roses—Symbolic aspects
Only the French-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The citation for the work being cataloged should include information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed. The meeting also requests that the UF and BT references be revised to follow the precedent of similar headings in LCSH (e.g., Bridges—Symbolic aspects; Fruit—Symbolic aspects). The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.
Enslaved persons
This proposal was made to change the heading Slaves to Enslaved persons. The meeting chose not to act on the proposal at this time, due to concerns that terminology used in society in general may not have changed sufficiently. In addition, dozens of other headings would need to be revised, and some may be problematic. For example, Fugitive slaves cannot be changed to Enslaved fugitives, but the phrase Fugitive enslaved persons may not be in use.
The proposal was retained and will be republished on Tentative List 3 in March 2022, at which time research will be done to determine whether the terminology has shifted to enslaved persons.
Slovak literature—Appreciation—Hungary
The subdivision –Appreciation free-floats under headings for literatures, and it can be subdivided geographically. The proposal was not necessary.
Social problems in the theater
It is unclear from the information provided whether the work being cataloged is about social problems as a theme in dramatic works (i.e., in literature), or about social problems as depicted onstage. If the former, the heading Social problems in literature should be assigned and the work should be classified with Korean literature in the PL schedule. If the latter, then the proposal may be resubmitted with a fuller description of the work being cataloged.
Staberl (Fictitious character)
Headings for individual fictitious characters have been established in the name authority file since 2013, per SHM H 1610. The proposal was not approved.
Svali͡avsʹkyĭ memorialʹnyĭ park (Svali͡ava, Ukraine)
The heading and qualifier, the BT, and any UFs need to be supported by information in the citations. The BT in this proposal is not supported by information in English. In addition, if the memorial is for a particular war or event, a BT should be provided for the war or event, with a subdivision if appropriate. Finally, UFs should be provided only for variant forms in pertinent languages, which are generally defined as the language(s) of the country in which the feature is located. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Television plays, Argentine
The work being cataloged is a collection of award-winning screenplays, but the scope note on Television plays says that the heading is not assigned to produced television programs. Instead, headings appropriate to the content, genre, and/or form of the program should be assigned. The proposal was not necessary.
Urban pollution
This proposal was made to add the UF Cities and towns—Environmental aspects to the established heading. The environmental impact of cities and towns is much broader than urban pollution, so the UF is not equivalent to the heading. The proposal was not approved.
Villa Kérylos (France)
This proposal was made to cancel the subject heading in favor of the name heading Fondation Théodore Reinach, Villa grecque Kérylos (Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France). The villa existed before the foundation moved in, and is not synonymous with the foundation. The name heading was revised to Fondation Théodore Reinach (Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France) and the proposal to cancel the subject heading was not approved.
Women museum directors
Only the French-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.
Women in criminal justice administration
The proposed heading would be assigned to women who are employed in criminal justice administration, but the work being cataloged appears to be about women who are incarcerated, paroled, etc. Works of that type are assigned the heading Female offenders. The proposal was not necessary.
Yonghyŏl amji (Kangjin-gun, Korea)
In LCSH, the general preference when establishing headings for temples is to provide a BT that indicates the religion of the temple (e.g., Buddhist temples; Hindu temples). Additional research should be done to determine the religion and adjust the BT. In addition, the UF Yonghyŏram (Kangjin-gun, Korea) is not supported by the citations in the proposal, and it does not appear to be based on a different romanization. The meeting requests that a citation supporting the UF be provided. If it is in fact a romanization issue, please include a cataloger’s note explaining the situation. The proposal may be resubmitted.
GENRE/FORM TERMS
Comics adaptations; Film adaptations; Graphic novel adaptations; Radio adaptations; Television adaptations; Theatrical adaptations
These proposals were made to cancel the terms in accordance with the decision on the May 2018 proposal Screenplay adaptations. The Summary of Decisions for that list read as follows.
LCGFT has a prohibition on the introduction of compound terms. The proposed term can be covered by post-coordinating two existing genre-form terms, Screenplays and Adaptations.
The proposal was not approved.
The meeting identified several other “adaptations” terms that also violate the restriction. Those terms will be cancelled on an upcoming list.
The proposals listed above were withdrawn from the current list in order to investigate the terms thoroughly. However, the term Opera adaptations was cancelled at the request of the Music Library Association’s Cataloging and Metadata Committee.
Bilingual books
The phrase bilingual books does not represent a form or a genre; it merely indicates that the book includes text in two languages. The proposal was not approved.
Exquisite corpse books
An exquisite corpse book is a split-page book in which the three parts of the pages display the head, torso, and legs of a person or creature. The meeting prefers not to establish separate terms based on the types of illustrations in split-page books. Exquisite corpse books was added as a UF to Split-page books. The proposal was not approved.
