CLASSIFICATION

BX8776.5.Z8 b A634

DS493.9.B33

This proposal should be resubmitted with a resubmitted subject proposal. See below under Badis for details.

TP588.S45

This proposal should be resubmitted with a subject heading proposal for Hard seltzer.

TX803.R7

This proposal should be resubmitted with a resubmitted subject proposal. See below under Cooking (Root crops) for details.

SUBJECT HEADINGS

Armenian language—Spoken Armenian

This heading is still represented by the multiple subdivision --Spoken French, [Japanese, etc.]. The proposal was not necessary.

Badis

This proposal was resubmitted from list 1909, but the cataloger did not make any of the requested changes. From the 1909 Summary of Decisions:
The cataloger needs to look at the other records with qualified 053s – or look at the MARC documentation and correct the punctuation in the 053$c. The work cat citation does not provide a description of the Vadi, and none of the other citations use that spelling.  Do the other citations refer to the same group? If the citations refer to the same group, some information should be provided that shows that the groups are the same.  The citation to the census is good, but again, how does the cataloger know that the Vadi and the Badi are the same people? Joshua Project is cited, but the entry there indicates that Badi is not the preferred term for the people. It also indicates that the people are in India, Nepal, and Pakistan, but the citation lists only India and Nepal. Again in Joshua Project, Vadi is listed as a variant form of name for a different ethnic group in India and Pakistan. The heading and UFs should be in the singular with a qualifier for the region, not in the unqualified plural form. The proposal may be resubmitted.

This proposal may be resubmitted again to include the required information.

Bildungsromans, Brazilian

The proposal did not provide any information that supports the qualifier or the choice of broader term. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Bildungsromans, Caribbean (Spanish)

The proposal did not provide any information that supports the qualifier or the choice of broader term. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Cooking (Root crops)

The work cat is a cookbook for both root and tuber crops, so two headings should have been proposed because LCSH has separate headings for Root crops and Tuber crops. The heading being proposed should not conflate the two. This proposal may be resubmitted along with a proposal for Cooking (Tuber crops).

Detective and mystery stories, Singaporean (English)

This proposal was not needed for the work being cataloged. That work should be cataloged with the heading Noir fiction, Singaporean (English), which is approved on this list. The proposal was not necessary.

Detective and mystery stories, Trinidadian and Tobagonian

Not necessary. This proposal was not needed for the work being cataloged. That work should be cataloged with the heading Noir fiction, Trinidadian and Tobagonian, which is approved on this list. The proposal was not necessary.

Eunuchs in literature

The cataloger did not supply any information indicating how the proposal relates to the work being cataloged.  The proposal may be resubmitted.

Fugitive slave communities

This proposal was made to add the UF Maroon communities to the established heading. Maroon communities are a much narrower type of fugitive slave communities, so the UF is not equivalent to the heading. The proposal was not approved, and the cataloger is encouraged to submit a proposal for Maroon communities as a separate heading, with BT of Fugitive slave communities—Americas.

Garth (Hall : Powys, Wales)

This topic is included in the heading Garth Estate (Powys, Wales), which is approved on this list. The proposal was not approved.

Khalkhal (Extinct city)

H 715 says that extinct cities may be established as subject headings if they ceased to exist before 1500 A.D. If the city existed beyond 1500 A.D. it should be established in the Name Authority File. This proposal may be resubmitted with information about when the city ceased to exist, and explaining the relation between this extinct city and the current populated places mentioned in the GEOnet citation.

Lotte World Tower (Seoul, Korea)

The proposal did not include any information supporting the choice of broader terms. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Mitten family

The proposal provided no citation to the work being cataloged as is required in SHM H 202 sec. 1.a.(1). The citation must provide, in English, the name of the family and the location of the family, at minimum. Complete instructions for establishing family names can be found in H 1631. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Nüwa (Chinese deity)

Effective since August 2013, individual named deities should be established in the Name Authority File (see SHM H 1635). The proposal was not approved.

Ogopogo

Mythical animals should be established in the Name Authority File. The proposal was not approved.

Restaurant architecture

Only the Swedish-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.

Sinking Creek Watershed (Hardin-Meade and Breckenridge Counties, KY.)

The creek itself must be proposed, per H 800. The proposal may be resubmitted along with a proposal for the creek.

Țibleș Mountains (Romania)

The work cat citation contains no English. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.

Tongmud family

The source citation indicates the nominative form of name, but not the location or ethnicity of the family. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Wedding venues

A wedding can take place in any sort of area including parks, community centers, churches, etc., so the definition of “wedding venue” is ambiguous at best, and the presence of the scope note acknowledges that fact. However, a wedding venue may not be a building at all, and practically any space can be configured to accommodate a wedding. It may be a certain particularly level portion of a beach for example.
There are some buildings that are purpose-built wedding venues, as is indicated in the proposal, but the proposal itself states (about the work being cataloged), that it is an “…event space designed specifically for hosting weddings, receptions, and special events” [emphasis added]. So, the building being described is a multipurpose building, which is probably advertised as a wedding venue, but can be used for unspecified receptions and special events as well.
The meeting could not find a sufficiently unambiguous alternative term. A heading should be assigned for the type of building or other setting, e.g., Multipurpose buildings, Guildhalls, Garden structures, Beaches, and post-coordinated with the heading Weddings. The proposal was not approved.

Wiriyamu Massacre, Mozambique, 1972

Operation Marosca and the Wiriyamu Massacre should not be conflated in one record. The operation was far larger than just the massacre (additional citation to indicate the size of the operation:  https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/j.ctt5hhsjk.31 ). This proposal may be resubmitted along with a proposal to establish Operation Marosca as a separate heading.

MEDIUM OF PERFORMANCE TERMS

string drum

This proposal lacks English in the work cat 670 per M 638 sec. 1.a.(6). The proposal may be resubmitted.
