Chronicling America API
An API for Chronicling America
On Monday, June 30, 2025, the Library of Congress launched a new online catalog
platform. For general information, visit the
Catalog Welcome
Page. Updates are being restored incrementally to data available through the
loc.gov JSON/YAML API, sitemaps, and various microservices. Data from these
services are not fully synced to data from the catalog.
The Chronicling America Historic American Newspapers collection provides access to millions of digitized newspaper pages produced by the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP), a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Library of Congress. From 2007 to 2025, the legacy website hosting the Chronicling America collection had its own dedicated API. Beginning in 2025, the Chronicling America collection is accessible exclusively via the loc.gov API. Visit the Guide to Chronicling America Newspaper Datasets and API Access for more information.
