Benefits

Federal Benefits Plan
The Library of Congress’ benefits program is designed to help balance work and family life through comprehensive, competitive and flexible benefit programs.
Benefits include a health insurance program that offers numerous medical plan options covering employees and eligible dependents along with an employer contribution to premiums. Health care is provided through the largest group insurance program in the country. Benefits also include a leave policy that provides time off to take care of your personal and health care needs.
The current federal government retirement system is one of the premier retirement programs in the country. This flexible, portable system features three retirement components: a defined benefit component based on years of employment and salary history; a “401(k) type” plan called the Thrift Savings Plan, and social security. For more information about benefits for new employees visit Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Healthcare Enrollment.
