Browsing & Searching in LCSH

The LC Subject Search interface provides you with options to browse by Structured subject heading (you must include double dashes(--) between terms), Unstructured subject heading, Structured free-floating subdivision, Unstructured free-floating subdivision, Keyword, and Classification number. You will also have an option to search within these parameters. Below the search boxes, you will have display options to include the number of records per page (25, 50, 75 or 10) and Start with a summary list of index headings. Further search options include using boolean and/or case sensitive and exact match terms.

In this simulation, we have entered the LCSH portrait medallions in the Structured subject heading box. Since we simulated the search option earlier in the tutorial, we will try the Browse option this time. Select the circled Browse button below.
