Schéhérazade (choroegraphic drama in one act)

Music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; libretto by Léon Bakst, Alexandre Benois and Michel Fokine; sets and costumes by Léon Bakst; choreography by Michel Fokine; premiere on 4 June 1910, Théâtre National de l’Opéra, Paris. With its exotic and colorful décor and cast of harem wives and slaves, Schéhrazade was considered the epitome of Diaghilev’s Orientalism and one of the most popular ballets produced by the Ballets Russes. Performed over five hundred times between 1910 and 1929, the original cast included Ida Rubinstein, Vaslav Nijinsky, Enrico Cecchetti, and Bronislava Nijinska.

Music by Petr Ilich Tchaikovsky; libretto by Vladimir Begichev and Vasily Geltser adapted by Marius Petipa; Sets by Konstantin Korovin and Aleksandr Golovin; costumes by Aleksandr Golovin; choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, revised by Michel Fokine; premiere 30 November 1911, Royal Opera House, London. [This production was condensed into two acts from a version that was performed at the Maryinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg in 1895.]
