Collection Burma/Myanmar General Election 2010 Web Archive

About this Collection

Collection Period:
May 2010 to January 2011.

The November 7, 2010 Burma/Myanmar elections provided for under the 2008 constitution were watched by the world as critical to a government seeking broader legitimacy in the road to democracy. Most governments, including the United States, criticized the elections as not meeting international standards of free and fair elections. Two main parties contested: the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and the National Unity Party (NUP); the party led by Aung San Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy (NLD), withdrew from the elections and boycotted the elections. As expected, the ruling government party, the USDP was victorious. This collection includes archived websites from candidates, non-profits and NGOs.
