Collection Franz Liszt at the Library of Congress

About this Collection

In order to commemorate the bicentenary of Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt's birth (2011), as well as to bring attention to the Library of Congress's substantial holdings of primary source material related to this composer, this presentation is offered as a portal to facilitate the exploration of the Library's rich resources for performing research on Liszt's life and career.

Several items pertaining to Liszt have been digitized and made available here, including five holograph music manuscripts by Liszt and three compositions by other composers with arrangements by Franz Liszt.  A book listing the manuscripts, correspondence and first editions of Liszt's work's which have been acquired by the Library before 1991 (The Music Manuscripts, First Editions, and Correspondence of Franz Liszt (1811-1886) in the Collections of the Music Division, Library of Congress) can also be found in this presentation.
