Abbreviations for the Microfilm Digitization Project

The checklists composed to accompany the microfilm collections of manuscripts from the Monastery of St. Catherine on Mt. Sinai, the Greek and Armenian Patriarchates of Jerusalem, and the monasteries of Mt. Athos contain the following taken from the checklists

• pa. = paper
• pg. = pergamenum (vellum or parchment)
• illum. = manuscript illumination
• f. = folio (one sheet, comprising the back and front, from a manuscript)
• ft. = feet (used to measure the length of a microfilm reel)
• ca. = circa (from Latin circa meaning around or about, is used in reference to a date)
• ms. = manuscript (mss is the plural, manuscripts)
