Curatorial Divisions

  • The African and Middle Eastern Division has custody of materials in Arabic, Armenian, Coptic, Georgian, Hebrew, Syriac, Persian, and many other languages of the Middle East.
  • The European Division is responsible for the Russian (including Old Church Slavonic) and the modern Greek (1453+) collections.
  • Humanities and Social Sciences Division has custody of the Library of Congress’ microfilm and microfiche collections, including those of the manuscript collections from Mt. Sinai, Mt. Athos, and the Greek and Armenian Patriarchates in Jerusalem. Reference service is provided through the Main Reading Room.
  • Prints and Photographs Division has custody of the Library of Congress’ photographic collections as well as other pictorial works. Access to their digitized materials is available at http://www.loc.gov/pictures/.
