Night Journey

Performed to music by William Schuman, with costumes designed by Martha Graham and a set by Isamu Noguchi, Night Journey was commissioned by the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation of the Library of Congress. The work premiered on May 3, 1947, at Cambridge High School, Boston. The original cast included Graham, Mark Ryder, Erick Hawkins, and other members of the Martha Graham Dance Company. Walter Terry, writing for the New York Herald Tribune (May 5, 1947) noted, "Miss Graham has created a fine and stirring work…and her own performance as Jocasta is generally a brilliant one…."

Novelette

Performed to music by Robert Schumann, Novelette premiered on April 18, 1926, at New York's 48th Street Theater. The solo work was performed by Graham and was part of her first independent concert.
