Georgia native Cleveland King Jr. enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968 and moved up in leadership during the year he spent in Vietnam. He served as a radio operator in locations ranging from Dong Ha to Quang Tri and LZ Stud, and was wounded during the Battle of Khe Sanh. While he experienced racial discrimination and felt the opposition expressed from civilians at home, he did all he could to lift and speak up for those serving around with him no matter their rank or position.
