Brian Floca is an author and illustrator who won the 2014 Caldecott Medal for “Locomotive.” He has also written and illustrated the award-winning titles “Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11” (Atheneum/Richard Jackson), his newest work; “Lightship”; and “The Racecar Alphabet.” Floca has illustrated Avi’s “Poppy Stories,” Sandra Jordan’s “Ballet for Martha” and Laura Amy Schlitz’s “Princess Cora and the Crocodile,” among many others. In addition to the Caldecott, Floca’s books have received four Robert F. Sibert Honor awards for distinguished informational books and a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators. His books have twice been named to The New York Times’s annual 10 Best Illustrated Books.
