Nikki Giovanni

Nikki Giovanni is the author of more than a dozen poetry collections, including “Black Feeling, Black Talk,” “Blues: For All the Changes” and “Make Me Rain: Poems & Prose” (William Morrow). She has also written a number of children’s books, such as “Ego-Tripping and Other Poems for Young People,” “The Girls in the Circle” and “I Am Loved.” Giovanni has served as an editor for “The 100 Best African American Poems” and “Night Comes Softly: An Anthology of Black Female Voices.” Throughout her career, she has received seven NAACP Image Awards, the Maya Angelou Lifetime Achievement Award and the Literary Excellence Award. Giovanni has taught at Ohio State University, Rutgers University and Virginia Tech, where she is currently a University Distinguished Professor.
