Adrienne Raphel is the author of “Thinking Inside the Box: Adventures with Crosswords and the Puzzling People Who Can't Live Without Them” (Penguin), which explores the rich history of crossword puzzles and their rise to prominence in American culture. The book has received praise from numerous publications, including The Guardian, Publishers Weekly and The New York Times Book Review. Raphel also won the Rescue Black Box Poetry Prize for her debut poetry collection, “What Was It For,” published in 2017. Her poems and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Slate and elsewhere.
