Hawa Hassan is a Somali-born chef, entrepreneur and author. She is the founder and CEO of Basbaas Somali Foods, the only food line specializing in Somalian chutneys and sauces in the United States. Her cookbook, “In Bibi's Kitchen: The Recipes and Stories of Grandmothers from the Eight African Countries that Touch the Indian Ocean” (Ten Speed), was longlisted for the Art of Eating Prize and named one of the best cookbooks of 2020 by The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian and NPR. She currently resides in New York City, where she connects with a community of fellow chefs, cookbook authors and food entrepreneurs.
